CFCA Expresses Concern Over Lancaster Energy Drink Ban During Critical Wildfire Relief Efforts

Sacramento, CAThe California Fuels & Convenience Alliance (CFCA) is deeply concerned about the timing of the Lancaster City Council’s unanimous decision to pass an energy drink ban prohibiting the sale of energy drinks to individuals under 18. This decision comes as the Los Angeles area faces catastrophic wildfires, with communities urgently needing resources and support.

CFCA members, who include small businesses in the fuels and convenience industry, are actively working to gather supplies and provide assistance to those affected by the devastating wildfires. However, this new ordinance in Lancaster adds an unexpected layer of regulatory complexity for local businesses, diverting attention and resources away from critical relief efforts.

“While we respect the City Council’s right to address local issues, we are disappointed by the prioritization of this energy drink ban during such an urgent time of need,” said Alessandra Magnasco, Senior Director Government Affairs of CFCA. “Our members are committed to supporting wildfire relief, and any new regulation, regardless of intent, has the potential to hinder their ability to focus on helping affected communities.”

CFCA recognizes the importance of local governance but urges municipalities to consider the immediate needs of their communities during crises like the current wildfires. Supporting relief efforts and aiding affected families and first responders should remain the top priority.
